Tiny Texas Houses Welcome to our newest adventure into the world of reclaimed materials and what one can do with them. We have created the Tiny Texas Houses Project. This is a new phase of expansion whereby we will be using all of the great materials we stock to build 95% recycled materials houses that will look original in nearly every way. They will have new wiring, insulation, plumbing and will be portable so they can travel over the years so as not to be left behind when you move. They will be built to modern codes, be Tyvek wrapped, insulated, and designed to last longer than anyone who buys one. They will be true to our company mission in that there will not be a better product like it on the market. Actually it should be the only 95% recycled portable Tiny House on the market in the USA. Yes there are others who make Tiny Houses, but none who use exclusively vintage lumber and focus on the handmade quality and details of the old days, with original Cypress and antique pine siding, period windows with wavy glass, doors, hardware, and sinks.
We are creating a series of models that include some of the styles we will produce, from Rustic Texas Cabins, Victorians, Cottages, and even Tiny Texas Chapels. We will also create some whimsical creations for fun and even clone houses for clients who want a replica of the family homestead. No two Tiny Texas Houses will ever be exactly alike but instead, each will be a unique piece of House Art. Above are a couple of the first models, the 10'x17' Victorian Cottage with a nice porch, loft, bath w/shower and a small kitchenette. The Ranch style is a 10' x 16' with bath, loft, and kitchenette. Our smallest size but the largest porch so far. Below are a couple of interior pictures.
The larger model coming off the line is a 12' x 20' Victorian, with loft, bath, and kitchenette area.
Waiting for the roof, above is the Texas Ranch style and next to it the half way built Victorian Cottage. We have at least five models on site that we will create initially but we will be doing Custom Tiny Houses to fit the clients needs. We have the versatility to give you what you want based on the incredible inventory of materials that we carry and our in house design experts. We don't need to just replicate the many styles of the past. No two will ever be exactly alike. Clients will be able to come in and pick from 6,000 doors, 3,000 windows, thousands of square feet of flooring, bead board, shiplap, and sidings all from the periods that the houses were originally made from 100 years or more ago. We will even offer a Tiny House Cloning Service to take a picture of Grandpa's house and duplicate it on a small scale. The wood is all cured and harder than anything on the market today and the natural resistance to rot and bugs will be good for another hundred years. Tiny Texas Houses use all antique Cypress, Antique Pine, and Long Leaf Pine sidings. We prefer Long Leaf Pine floors but also use Antique Oak, or Northern Pine floors, as well as other great woods like Walnut, and Butternut. The kitchens and baths can be fitted out with original period cast iron sinks, tubs, and cabinets.
Above is the framing with vintage 2x4's, the Tyvek wrapping, and the flex plumbing all included on the Tiny Houses. One of the other unique features will be the option of having gray water and black water plumbing systems so as to conserve water, allowing one to use the gray water for plants and separating out the black water for composting or simply taking away to dispose of elsewhere. We will also feature a solar power option that will take care of lighting, water pumps if we use a cistern, and that way limit the amount of actual energy consumption for those that want to just drop them out in the woods or by the pond, far away from the utilities that most people are tied to for survival. Of course in Texas, you may still need a generator for the air conditioning.
Above are pictures of elements like the insulation, one of the windows with trim, the flooring, none of which is finished. The sizes of Tiny Texas Houses will range from 8'x16' to as large as 12' x 20' with the ability to put a couple units together in order to create a larger space more akin to the multi-generation houses of the past. They started with the small homestead house, then added on as the wife or kids arrived with the passage of time. Join us in the adventure and watch as the evolution of Tiny Texas Houses comes into the world, born from tons of materials stored in the 150,000 square foot of inventory that makes up Discovery Architectural Antiques. Pricing for Tiny Texas Houses will range from $32,000-$55,000 but custom larger models could amount to more. These are intended to be used for everything from minimalist homes, guesthouses, art studios, offices, exercise rooms, pool houses, or anything else you can think of to fit your needs.
Feel free to contact us for more information and updates on the model houses being built. Presently we are operating with a 4-6 week lag time from order to completion, but that can vary as orders accumulate. Lag time expected to increase within 30 days.
The ceiling of the ranch house is done in a rustic tongue and groove as is the floor, and the loft which is big enough for a Queen size bed. Pricing for structure without bath or kitchen available. Below are a few of the possible floor plans, realizing that they are all custom built and you can decide what you like once you have been through the models.
